Richard Tol is quite busy trying out for his new career as a web based comedian over at twitter.  If there is one thing that Cook et al. are to be thanked for it is the meltdowns that they have set off at Lucia’s and Tol’s.  Eli has been having a bit of fun here and there, but he needs to share the glory with Tom Curtis at Brisbane’s Waters and our friend Willard in the comments at Rabett Run , Dana and many others. To be honest, and Eli is an honest Rabett, Tol has dug this one so deep that he has called out the Chewbacca team .

Syracuse New York Headed For Bankruptcy, 100% Certain

Please consider this news headline which I openly mock: Expert says bankruptcy for Syracuse is unlikely, but mayor should explore option While the financial situation in the city of Syracuse hasn’t been described as desperate yet, Mayor Stephanie Miner has asked for some legal expertise on municipal bankruptcy. The signs of the city’s financial problems have been evident for several years as city employees accept wage freezes and fire and police departments see staff reductions. The city will use an early payment from Albany to help keep the budget from dipping into dwindling reserves.

America != Europe. How’s that for insight?

I’m planning to write a post on how a revenue neutral carbon tax might, just might, have a shot in the US in the medium term.  First though I have to disagree with William’s argument that a revenue-neutral carbon tax is the only way to go – or to be more fair, is the best political approach
