The Cyanobacteria’s Friend and Obama’s Second Speech

By News Desk

Tweet Ray Pierrehumbert writes about President Obama’s speech in Slate One should be grateful for a president who is willing to stand up and declare—as President Obama did in his speech Tuesday announcing his long-awaited climate action plan —that global warming due to carbon dioxide emissions is a serious problem requiring serious measures, and that “We don’t have time for a meeting of the Flat Earth Society.†After all, as presidents go, we could have done much worse . President Obama is working under serious constraints in the form of a completely uncooperative Congress, and insofar as there is no real substitute for congressional action , there are limits to what he can be expected to do

Tol erasion

By News Desk

Richard Tol is quite busy trying out for his new career as a web based comedian over at twitter.  If there is one thing that Cook et al. are to be thanked for it is the meltdowns that they have set off at Lucia’s and Tol’s.  Eli has been having a bit of fun here and there, but he needs to share the glory with Tom Curtis at Brisbane’s Waters and our friend Willard in the comments at Rabett Run , Dana and many others. The better question is what should the global average temperature revert to after stabilizing

By News Desk

Tweet An argument I’ve seen more than once from climate inactivists sometimes comes in the form of a question, "what is the ideal average global temperature," as if the question has a deep implication. In mid-gallop from "there’s no warming; the warming is all natural; humans have little contribution," this is the step, "the warming gets us to a better temperature anyway," before they move on to "the overall negative effect isn’t that bad; it’s too soon to take action; it’s too late to take action." The first naive thought would be that places like Alaska should welcome some warmth, and a lot of the world’s land mass is polar. What they miss is how melting permafrost results in sinking roads and buildings, forests die because insect pests survive mild winters more easily, and coastlines disappear with the loss of sea-ice protection from waves.

They are creating climate chaos every day — and they’re getting rich doing it..
